Match Report – William Byrd Vs Minet
By Ayman Goudari

Last week, William Byrd played Minet at their home ground. The match started at a fast pace as Mohamed and Robert had excellent chances however the ball never went past the line. After 5 minutes of play, Robert launched the ball towards Armaan who managed to wrong foot the defender and side foot the ball into the net! During the first half, William Byrd piled the pressure onto Minet and had several excellent chances and many corners.
Some neat interplay between Mckenzie and Yusuf led to some good chances but the teams shooting accuracy let them down.
The second half was very nervous and tense with both teams intent on attacking. Some solid defending from Minet kept WB at bay as their defence took no chances and knocked the ball out of play when under pressure. Unluckily for The Byrds, Minet managed to score a scrappy goal from a corner which touched several people before being bungled into the net. This however only served to make the team more determined and they quickly were up the other end of the pitch. Robert and Mohammed were particularly impressive with their communication and letting everyone know who they should mark. The subs who came on towards the end included Reiko Mistry and Baqir Medhi and they instantly lifted the team and gave everything they had on the pitch. Even though the Byrd’s had the majority of possession and chances, ultimately they could not make it count. They had several chances cleared off the line and had to settle for a draw.
William Byrd vs Guru Nanak – 27/1/16

Last week the year 6 football team played their final league match against Guru Nanak. After a tense opening, Guru Nanak struck first with some neat interplay and slotted the ball into the net. However, it wasn't long before William Byrd struck back. From the immediate kick off, Suhayb, Mckenzie and Armaan exchanged passes before replying instantly with a thundering shot past the Guru Nanak Keeper. Despite the terrible conditions and horrific pitch, both teams were intent on attacking. Two more goals followed in the second half and the match was level at a nerve wracking 2-2. With the ball deep in William Byrd's half and the whistle about to blow, the ball was sent up the pitch to Armaan. He coolly finished off with a neat touch into the bottom left hand corner of the net .
FINAL RESULT - WB 3 - 2 GURU NANAK
